Making sure that you are using the perfect platform for your enterprise business is a really important part of your job as a business owner. There are a lot of great solutions out there that you could use for your ecommerce business, but one of the names that pop-up regularly, and probably more than any other name, is Shopify. Shopify also an enterprise ecommerce solution called Shopify Plus, and while there are a lot of great things about it, there are also some things that can be considered downsides about it as well, and we feel that that isn’t something that a lot of people talk about. There can be problems with the templates

Shopify is known to have a lot of gorgeous themes and templates that can really help users to create the best looking ecommerce websites possible. However, something that a lot of people don’t realize, which is understandable, is the fact that a lot of people don’t actually understand that some templates have actual functionalities built in them and those are very difficult to be changed. This means that you need to be really careful when choosing the template you want to use and really consider the functionalities that it has and doesn’t have. Of course, you can always pay someone that knows how to write code to deal with the situation for you, but that is something that will cost you a lot of extra money, so keep that in mind when choosing.

The checkout process cannot be changed

Another thing that can be pretty frustrating about the Shopify Plus enterprise ecommerce platform is the fact that when it comes to the checkout process, what you see is what you get and there is not much you can do about it. Sure, you will be able to style it a bit using CSS, but if you want to add any extra fields, then that is not an option since you have very limited control in that area. If you don’t really care about this, then you should be pretty happy with what the platform already offers, but if you are the kind of retailer that wants to add advanced features like postcode lookup, or something similar, then we are sorry to say that you can forget about that. This also isn’t a matter when having someone that understands code can help, there is simply no wiggle room here.

You will depend heavily on third party developers

Something else that Shopify is really known for, that also transfers to Shopify Plus, is the really big and extensive App Store that holds over 1500 applications and different add-ons. However, even though a lot of people are very impressed with the app store, the reality is that there is a real need for it because you won’t be able to have a complete ecommerce store without its help. You will need to use those apps to add functionalities that Shopify lacks in their basic offer of them. One of the biggest problems here is that anytime you depend on some third party you also risk dealing with severe changes that can really affect your business in a really bad way. Of course, no matter what kind of platform you use there will always be some kind of risk that you will have to be prepared for. A way to turn this to your advantage is if you know how to create apps because it means you can design your own and even make some money from adding them to the app store.

As you can see, there are definitely some things that you need to be aware off before you decide that this is the way to go for your business. however, even with all of the things that we mentioned above we still believe that the Shopify Plus enterprise ecommerce solution is an excellent one to ho for, and it will now be up to you to decide whether the pros will outweigh some of the downsides that we spoke about.
